Doug Levitt is a singer-songwriter who was born Douglas Levitt Schwartz in Washington, D.C. in the year 1972. Levitt is the youngest child of former real estate lawyer, David Schwartz, and Carol Schwartz who was a former mayoral candidate and councilperson. Levitt was educated in the public school system. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. Levitt said in a recent interview that his father’s suicide in 1988 made the singer-songwriter decide to become an artist. Greyhound Diaries was supposed to be a collection of songs for EP records, a novel, and a web series. Levitt wanted to tell stories about regular people who were struggling within this economy. He found the entire experience helped him grow.
Doug told stories about country boys who grew up to become foreign soldiers, making their fathers proud. Another story was about a paratrooper who became a computer scientist. There are many stories, images, and soundtracks about the life of a Greyhound bus traveler. A woman, Gina, became a drug addict in her senior years. After she received treatment, she decided to become a drug counselor. Hector’s young son was accidentally shot in the head in a drive-by shooting. Hector told Levitt that it was just as much of a struggle for him to get over the guilt as it was for his son to rehabilitate.
